The move came in the middle of the 2019-20 season. Kyle Dubas was preparing for a playoff run and wanted to move on from Marchment in order to get a more reliable, veteran depth player. As such, he went to the Florida Panthers and found Denis Malgin.
Unfortunately for Dubas and the Leafs, the move didn't really work out the way he had hoped it would. Malgin would only get into 8 games with the Leafs that season and recorded zero points. In total, he ended up playing 31 games for the organization, and scored 4 points.
Marchment meanwhile has become a key part of a Dallas Stars team that is built on depth. He was a notable contributor to the team on their run to the Western Conference finals this year, even as he battled through injuries. He had several key moments in that run, including a go-ahead goal in game to of the Western Conference final.
However, it should be noted that Marchment has developed a reputation for flopping, whether or not that is deserved. It did cost the Stars a powerplay in the same series, in what was one of the more controversial calls in the playoffs last season.
Marchment was never drafted, but eventually made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2019-20 season after he started off on a tryout contract with the Marlies. He would go on to play just four games for the Leafs, and averaged just over 8 minutes of ice time in those games. He would go on to score 20 goald and 57 points with the Florida Panthers in 87 games before signing a four-year deal with the Dallas Stars. So far, he's played in 149 games with Dallas and has 34 goals and 84 points to show for it. For Kyle Dubas, that's a dang it.
