This has apparently grown into a serious situation as tensions between Reaves and the team are reportedly growing.
It is unclear exactly how long Reaves has considered himself healthy enough to play as the team still has him officially listed on Injured Reserve. That being said though, the team may very well be keeping him there simply so they do not have to play him, the same way a fantasy player might keep a player on IR just so other teams can't claim them. Regardless though, Reaves's play this season could be the real reason he has not returned to the lineup as he has generally been the worst player on the team.
Reaves recently addressed his absence from the lineup with reporters. He seemed to indicate that the team has not communicated their plans with him as he remains in the dark about his future with the team.
This is not a good look for the Leafs coaching staff, but ultimately this falls on the shoulders of Brad Treliving, who signed Reaves to a three-year contract extension over the summer.
Most fans immediately knew the deal was terrible from the day it was signed. Reaves was one of the worst players in the league last season which begs the question, why did Treliving think this was a good idea? Was a three-year offer even necessary to entice Reaves? Regardless, it seems he could find himself on a new NHL team soon, if not with the Toronto Marlies.
