Hockey fans love the NHL, and at first glance, if you were to tell them that a second hockey league would be entering North America and begin play in November, they would be ecstatic, right?
Not quite the case, as this new league dubbed the Major League Hockey (MLH) is now being exposed as running a massive scam operation. Many experts believe this league will fail as quickly as it started.
Andrew Brewer is the founder of 200 Foot Hockey and 200 Foot Coaching, and is a leader in everything hockey technology related, and he was very critical of the MLH. It was reported by Andrew that those interested in joining the league have to go to "tryout camps", but in order to attend these camps, you have to pay a fee. If you end up earning a roster spot on a team, only half of your tryout fee will be reimbursed to you.
The MLH claims to have a salary cap of $30 million right off the bat, however people aren't so sure that is legitimate since they are only refunding you half your tryout fee! Seems like a scam to many.
The MLH is also claiming to have former NHL coaches behind the benches of every team, and states that players will be mixed between entry level style talent to professionals to even ex-NHLers. People are calling this outright ridiculous.
It appears that people aren't taking this league seriously, however the MLH maintains that it is ready to start its inaugural season in November and that they are fully operational. It will be interesting to see how long they do actually remain open, as this seems like an amateur style league, due to the fact that they require membership fees to join, however claim they will pay their players millions? Something just doesn't add up. Very fishy indeed.
