Just as quick as the Arizona Coyotes left the desert, they might be coming right back. Mat Ishbia wants to bring a team back to Phoenix immediately.

Ishbia is the owner of the NBA's Phoenix Suns, and expressed interest in having an NHL team return to the Phoenix area after they recently relocated to Utah.

There was no mention whether Ishbia had already spoken to Gary Bettman and the NHL about his plan, however if things go smoothly and a new arena gets built and Ishbia is willing to pay the heavy expansion fee, we could see an NHL team in Arizona in less than 10 years.

Mat Ishbia has expressed interest in bringing an NHL franchise back to Phoenix, Arizona 🇺🇸 as an expansion franchise.

The Coyotes branding rights were retained by the league after the team moved to Utah, which means that should a team return to Arizona, they could once again be named the Coyotes and use the same logo that they had in the past.

Ishbia is the CEO and chairman of United Wholesale Mortgage, and owns both the NBA's Suns and the WNBA Phoenix Mercury. He is worth over $10 billion. Hockey fans in the desert are hoping his deep pockets can help them get their team back one day.
