With the NHL's Stanley Cup playoffs set to begin in less then one week, the media has been busy discussing this year's candidates for various trophies this season.
For some choices there's no doubt who will win that trophy such as the Hart, but things get interesting when it comes to the Vezina. Many would automatically assume that Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark would be hands down the front winner, having a career year with the Bruins who set history for most wins in a season.
Ullmark has been impressive no doubt with a 40-6-1 record, and posting a 1.89 goals against average and .938 save percentage. However Sportsnet's Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman would make a surprising pick on social media.
Elliotte Friedman Shares His Surprising Pick For The Vezina Trophy
Friedman suggests that Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck should be revealing the importance Hellebuyck had on the Jets making the playoffs saying:
«The Vezina winner this year should be Connor Hellebuyck. I don't care what anyone says. He just played 13 games in a row and got the Jets into a playoffs».
The 29 year-old went 37-25-2 with a 2.49 goals against, and .920 save percentage. Friedman makes a fair point all though Ullmark's numbers are better the Bruins could of made the playoffs with a emergency backup all season while Hellebuyck is probably the main reason why the Jets made the playoffs has to be taken into consideration.
