The Boston Bruins appear ready for a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run in 2023-24, and they may even be doing business with their fiercest rival to accomplish that.
While the Bruins have been red-hot once again to start the regular season, it's clear that they just don't have the star power up front to compete in the playoffs, and with the March 8 trade deadline looming, they've got some time to add to their roster.
According to a recent report from Eklund of Hockey Buzz, one player they may be targeting is veteran Sean Monahan, and they may even be willing to do business with the Canadiens to get it done.
There is something to this one. Others are reporting as well, but the Boston Bruins have had serious, albeit preliminary talk, with the Montréal Canadiens regarding Sean Monahan.yes, the two most hated rivals in the sport discussing a trade. Is nothing sacred?
Unfortunately for Montreal, Sean's on-and-off health issues have played a part in the price tag being much lower than it should be given the unquestionable skill set. The Kings, Panthers, Red Wings, and Devils are all also keeping close tabs.
A cheap upgrade for the Boston Bruins
As Eklund mentioned, Monahan's myriad of injuries over the years don't make him a certainty to contribute down the stretch, and while he's a fantastic player when healthy, these concerns make him a much cheaper target for the Bruins.
In 44 games for Montreal this season, Monahan has tallied 11 goals and 27 points, and if the Bruins could land him for a relatively cheap price, he could be a key for them down the stretch, but with other teams involved, a bidding war may ensue for the veteran.
