Wayne Gretzky Sends a Strong Message to the Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins recently joined the elite ranks as the fourth team in NHL history to achieve 60 wins in a season. Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky had some strong words of advice for them during his appearance on the NHL on TNT panel last Sunday.
As 'The Great One,' Gretzky has seen and experienced it all in the world of hockey, so he knows just how remarkable this Bruins team is. But, he raises an important question: Will their impressive season ultimately be for naught if they don't clinch the Stanley Cup?
Chasing the Ultimate Prize
Since 2021, Gretzky has frequently contributed his insights as an analyst on the NHL on TNT panel, and he was on hand for the Bruins-Blues game this past Sunday. Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reported that Gretzky had high praise for the Bruins:
"This team faces a strong hockey club every single night. There are no days off, no nights offeach game is a challenge. Their performance this season is truly astounding."
Yet, despite his admiration, Gretzky believes that it's "Cup or Bust" for Coach Jim Montgomery and his team this year:
"Honestly, it feels like you'd be heartbroken for them if they don't win the Stanley Cup. They've contributed so much to the game, played so selflessly, and they're such a joy to watch. It would be incredibly frustrating if they don't take home the Cup."
Gretzky's point is well-taken, as it would be a massive letdown if this talented team fails to go the distance. However, the 2022-23 Bruins are tantalizingly close to making history, as they are only three wins and eight points away from becoming the BEST team the NHL has ever seen.
