Sam Bennett in hot water for intentionally injuring Brad Marchand
The Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett is in hot water for intentionally injuring the Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand in game three.
Marchand was forced to leave the game after two periods following a dirty play by Panthers' Sam Bennett.
The Bruins' captain was skating with speed towards Bennett, but ended up laying down on the ice after a dirty move by Bennett.
As he braced himself for the hit, Bennett landed a sucker punch on Marchand's face. The referees didn't see anything wrong with the play and Bennett wasn't penalized for this gesture.
Check out Bennett's dirty play on Marchand in the video below:
"Sam Bennett throwing a little rabbit punch at Brad Marchand during last night's Game 3 between the Panthers and Bruins.
Another really bad look for a Panthers forward."
Fans have called out the NHL on social media, hoping the Department of Player Safety would act on the incident:
Marchand wasn't at the Bruins' morning skate earlier today, further fueling the fans' anger.
"Brad Marchand not on the ice for Bruins practice this morning after taking the Sam Bennett sneaky punch to the head in the first period last night."
If he ends up missing another game, it could be tough for the Bruins to bounce back from last night's 6-2 loss in Boston.
Updates from the NHL and the Bruins are expected later today.
