The Calgary Flames have fired Head Coach, Darryl Sutter, according to multiple NHL sources.

First reported by Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Sutter has been let go, having his two-year contract extension start in July.

Sutter, 64, was in his third year of his second stint as Flames Head Coach. Calgary went 114-75-31 in his three years since taking over in the 2020-21 season.

The 2022 Jack Adams winner for Coach of the Year, Sutter was criticized by fans over their struggles this season, having barely missed out on the playoffs, as well as the regression of high-end acquisition Johnny Huberdeau, acquired in a blockbuster trade with Florida for Matthew Tkachuk.

There is no word yet on the replacement for Sutter, but in the AHL, the Flames have Head Coach Mitch Love, who most recently won the AHL's top coach award.

Before returning to Calgary, Sutter won 2 Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings in 2014. Sutter had been the Head Coach of Calgary prior from 2002-2006.

Calgary went 38-27-17 in 2022-23, having missed the playoffs by 2 points.
