Jonathan Toews has been captain of the Blackhawks for nearly 15 years. He's won three cups in Chicago. He will play his last game as a Blackhawk tonight.

Toews to Play Last Game as a Blackhawk

The Blackhawks organization and GM Kyle Davidson released a statement this morning revealing that Jonathan Toews will play his last game as a Blackhawk today.

Toews, after being drafted 3rd overall in 2006, won three Stanley Cups as captain of the Blackhawks. He has played an incredibly 1066 games for the franchise, and will play in his 1067th, and final tonight.

"I've had a number of conversations with Jonathan throughout the season about his future with the Blackhawks, and recently, we had the difficult conversation that we won't be re-signing him this offseason. Tonight will be his final game as a Blackhawk, and it was very important to us to be able to provide the proper send off for Jonathan and our fans. He has done so much for this organization, and no matter where he plays next, we're excited our fans get the chance to show Jonathan exactly how much he means to them.
"

The statement does not say Toews will retire, which makes it all the more shocking. He may sign elsewhere in the hunt of a cup, or in his hometown of Winnipeg to end his career.

This is an emotional day for Blackhawks fans, who will have to say goodbye to their captain sooner than they had ever thought.
