After a 6-1 blowout loss to the Detroit Red Wings, Connor Bedard spoke to the media. After being asked how it felt to lose a game like that Bedard had a snappy response.
Bedard was clearly being sarcastic and having some fun with the media. He acknowledged that the effort and result were not good enough. He also admits that every loss hurts regardless of regular season or preseason.
Heading into the 2023-24 NHL season the Chicago Blackhawks are looking to make a major step forward. After bringing in several veterans such as Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, and Corey Perry the Blackhawks are hoping to be much improved in the standings.
The Blackhawks are still a rebuilding team and likely not going to be in the playoff picture this season. Steps forward and flashes of the team they could potentially be are what is expected still though. This is particularly the case for Bedard who is the Calder Trophy favorite and expected to score points and goals in bunches.
If the Blackhawks have struggles like they did against Detroit into the regular season the frustration will continue to build. In a big market like Chicago, questions will need to be answered for who is to blame if the Blackhawks struggle.
