The person who leaked the details of the Gaudreau brothers' accident revealed
We now know who first leaked Johnny Gaudreau and his brother's accident to the public.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau passed away in a devastating tragedy on Thursday night. They were hit by a drunk driver during a bike ride, which was confirmed on Friday morning by the NHL and the Columbus Blue Jackets organization.
"Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played, from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could.
The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him. Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago, and Columbus welcomed him with open arms. We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy."
However, the news was leaked during the night, and the reporter who released the news first was even fired from his job.
If you missed it, check out our report on this story from yesterday:
But the question remained as to how it was leaked in the first place. In a new development, we learned that the original death report was leaked by Connor McGlynn, an employee of the medical examiner's office in a group chat.
More from Puck Empire:
"Update: Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau's death report was leaked by an employee of the medical examiner's office in their friend's group chat last night. The leak included their addresses, and the employee has since deleted all his social media."
Medical professionals must respect the privacy of all their patients. This is completely unethical, and consequences are expected at this point.
