The Oilers are defying all experts' predictions for the 2023-24 season. They are sitting at the 31th position in the NHL, only two points away from the San Jose Sharks, who earned their first win of the season last night against the Flyers.

The season is still young, and there's still time to get back in the right track before being officially disqualified from the playoffs.

Oilers' Make Surprising Move After Horrible Start

The Oilers' GM and President, Ken Holland, surprisingly placed Jack Campbell on waivers yesterday.

Needless to say Campbell is one of the biggest disappointement in Edmonton since he signed hi $5M AAV contract in 2022.

"Edmonton will be putting Jack Campbell on waivers today"

While doing so won't free up much cap space (only $1.15M), it still gives them a bit of flexibility.

"#LetsGoOilers have placed Jack Campbell on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the minors.

Campbell has 3 years remaining on his contract after this season with an AAV of $5M.

Once assigned, the club will save $1.15M prorated against the cap."

According to a recent report, the Oilers are eyeing a controversial Stanley Cup champion to save them: Jordan Binnington.

"Reid Wilkins reports the #LetsGoOilers are actively interested in #STLBlues goaltender Jordan Binnington"

"Reid Wilkins has reported that the Oilers are apparently interested in Blues G Jordan Binnington."

"Reid Wilkins said on his show that there are quiet rumblings that the Oilers are after Jordan Binnington #Oilers "

Binnington and Campbell's contractual situations are similar. They both have three years left on their deal, but Binnington earns $1M more every year.

In order for a deal the happen, the Blues will need to retain money, or the Oilers will need to move other assets to free up the necessary space.

Binnington had his share of difficulaties in recent years, but nothing compared to Campbell.
