Leon Draisaitl will be heading into the last year of his contract in 2024-25. Many reports have indicated that the Edmonton Oilers are eager to re-sign their star center. However, one reporter from Edmonton is not so sure that Leon Draisaitl has a future in Edmonton.
Edmonton Journal reporter Jim Matheson suggested that not only is Leon Draisaitl potentially available but one team is already looking to acquire him. According to Matheson, the Boston Bruins are expected to take a major run at landing Leon Draisaitl.
While Jim Matheson also mentioned that Leon Draisaitl prefers to stay in Edmonton recent drama might suggest otherwise. During a game a couple of nights ago Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane got into an argument which eventually led to Evander Kane being scratched.
As of now, Leon Draisaitl leaving the Edmonton Oilers is very unlikely. The team wants their star core to stay intact and as of now, Leon Draisaitl wants to stay.
The biggest x-factor for this situation could be a potential change to management or coaching in Edmonton. Earlier this season the Oilers fired head coach Jay Woodcroft and rumors swirled around the job security of general manager Ken Holland.
The success of the Edmonton Oilers heading into the playoffs could determine a lot for the future of the team. If the Oilers once again fail to find playoff success change could be coming at every level of the organization.
