Evander Kane has reportedly faced a setback in his recovery from the injuries he suffered in the recent playoffs and could be forced to undergo surgery.

In breaking news, the reporter Bob Stauffer wrote in a new post on X that there is a good chance that Kane won't be ready for the start of training camp, should undergo surgery, and will likely join the Long Term Injury Reserve.

Kane struggled with health issues at the end of the regular season, and things took a turn for the worse in the playoffs.

Players compete harder in postseason games. With the high level of intensity, it can be easy to get hurt, especially when you're targeted every night by your opponents.

Kane has always been a very reactive and emotional player, something that was used against him in the playoffs. In the Stanley Cup Finals, he even had to miss the last games because he was too banged up to play.

The Oilers made significant acquisitions this summer with Viktor Arvidsson, Jeff Skinner, and Matthew Savoie, making them one of the team with the most depth going into the next season. If Kane isn't healthy enough to get back in action, they should still have a great start to the season.

Also, if Kane spends a lot of time on the LTIR, the Oilers could be positioning themselves to do what the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights did when they won the Stanley Cup: using the money that's on the LTIR to get more players and activate him in time for the playoffs, where teams can go over the usual limit.

Last season, Kane scored 44 points in 77 games, and added eight points in 20 playoff games despite important injuries.

If he can get back to 100% for the playoffs, it's hard to see how the 2024-25 season won't end with the Oilers winning the Stanley Cup.

More to come.
