The L.A. Kings tried hard to make a splash at this year's NHL trade deadline. With a limited window to win with players such as Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar, it makes sense that they would push hard to compete in the playoffs. While the notable trade they did make wasn't the largest trade, we almost saw a monstrous deal that would've completely changed the Kings.

Kings Almost Landed Saros

According to reputable NHL insider David Pagnotta, the L.A. Kings made an aggressive attempt to land Nashville's star goaltender at this year's trade deadline.

While the trade obviously never came to fruition, it's really fun to think about what almost was.

We saw L.A. trade away one of their most exciting defensive prospects today in a trade, Helge Grans, who would've almost certainly been involved in a deal for Saros.

Not Over Yet?

Pagnotta went on to state that he wonders if the trade talks revolving around Saros and L.A. continue later this month, leading up to the NHL draft and free agency. With news that Flyers netminder Carter Hart is also being shopped, it certainly seems like the goalie market is picking up.

"The Kings/Predators had discussed a trade involving goalie Juuse Saros during the season, prior to LA landing Korpisalo/Gavrikov. A package involved multiple 1sts/prospects. I'm curious if LA revisits these talks this month or if that ship has sailed." - David Pagnotta

With a star goalie such as Saros, L.A. would be a powerhouse in the west, and certainly not a team others would hope to face in the playoffs. Hopefully, we get more exciting trade news soon.
