Marc-Andre Fleury shares surprising update regarding his NHL future
It has been long speculated that Marc-Andre Fleury would be retiring after this season, however, he has just given a major update on that front, indicating that the door is still open for his return.
At the beginning of the year, it was thought that this would be Marc-Andre Fleury's farewell tour this season. There were stories of how he bought loads of tickets for his final game in Montreal, and he was emotional in Pittsburgh. It was all said that he hinted towards this season being his last, without confirming anything.
However, now, it looks like that might not be the case. Fleury was asked about his retirement plans and what his future looks like with the Minnesota Wild, and this is what he had to say.
«We also have another good young goalie in the American Hockey League in (Jesper) Wallstedt. He's been playing in (the AHL) for two years now. I'll need to know Bill's plans.»
Marc-Andre Fleury is one of the all-time goaltenders who could be picked up by anyone in the league.
Suffice it to say, if Marc-Andre Fleury wants to continue playing in the NHL, even if it isn't for the Minnesota Wild, there is a good chance he can see that through. However, as he notes, he will have to have that conversation with Bill Guerin if the time comes.
With where the Wild are at in the standings, it looks like if Fleury wants to compete for another championship, he will have to go somewhere else. We will see after this season is over.
