Renaud Lavoie has recently disclosed significant information concerning Auston Matthews and the Montreal Canadiens.

Lavoie recounts the early days of Auston Matthews' career back in 2016, when the Toronto Maple Leafs had just ended their season at the bottom of the NHL standings and won the draft lottery, subsequently selecting Matthews as the first overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Canadiens Almost Won the Matthews Lottery

As per the recent disclosure by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie, the Montreal Canadiens were apparently very close to securing the first overall pick in the 2016 draft.

During an appearance on Jean-Charles Lajoie's show on BPM Sports, Lavoie revealed that an employee of the Toronto Maple Leafs had shared interesting information, stating that the Canadiens had finished in the second position during the lottery draw for the first overall pick in 2016.

In the end, the Habs drafted Mikhail Sergachev ninth overall in 2016, and subsequently traded him along with a second-round pick for Jonathan Drouin and a 6th.

Can you imagine this Habs team if we had Auston Matthews (and an extra second-rounder) instead of Jonathan Drouin?
