Former Montreal Canadiens goalie makes shocking retirement annoucement
Former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Michael McNiven has made the shocking announcement that he is retiring from the NHL at just 27.
Michael McNiven was involved in North American professional hockey from 2015 to 2022. The Canadiens signed him to an entry-level contract in 2015, but things didn't work out as planned for him there, so he was traded to the Calgary Flames in 2022. His stint with Calgary only lasted 19 days, after which he was shipped to the Ottawa Senators for future considerations.
McNiven will remain in the hockey world, as he has just signed with the BCHL's Powell River Kings to be their assistant coach.
McNiven has one NHL period of experience under his belt, and it was a rough one. He came in relief to Cayden Primeau and let in three goals on only seven shots. The Habs lost badly that game, 8 to 2.
Unfortunately for him, that leaves McNiven with a career GAA of 9.00 and save percentage of .571 as NHL stats.
