Maple Leafs prospect Miroslav Holinka leaves his team to develop in a new city
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Miroslav Holinka has signed a contract with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League today, changing the course of his development.
Holinka was drafted in the 5th round this past year, 151st overall by Toronto. Due to the team's limited draft picks, he was actually the 3rd player the team selected this year. Now he appears set to leave his home country of Czechia to join a new team in North America.
✍️ The ink is dry! ✍️
Oil Kings have signed Miroslav Holinka to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the club announced today. Holinka was selected 14th overall by the club in the 2024 CHL Import Draft. Welcome to the Oil Kings, Miroslav! 👑
Holinka has already kicked off his season this year after a very short summer break as he participated in a friendly international tournament in Czechia earlier this month. He recorded four points in the three game affair, including three goals.

He finished with 3 goals, 1 assist, 11 shots on goal, and won 21 of 43 faceoffs he took in 3 games during this mini-exhibition tournament in Finland.
Holinka split time last season between the Czech pro league and the top junior league. Against pro competition, he scored three points including one goal in 16 games. At the Junior level, he was far more dominant, putting up 20 goals and 41 points in 29 games.
He added 6 goals and 14 points in 15 playoff games. Elite prospects lists his top qualities as puck handling and two-way play. This, combined with above average size makes him a good candidate to crack the Leafs bottom six in a few years time. Will he get there? Only time will tell.
