Holinka was drafted in the 5th round this past year, 151st overall by Toronto. Due to the team's limited draft picks, he was actually the 3rd player the team selected this year. Now he appears set to leave his home country of Czechia to join a new team in North America.
Holinka has already kicked off his season this year after a very short summer break as he participated in a friendly international tournament in Czechia earlier this month. He recorded four points in the three game affair, including three goals.
Holinka split time last season between the Czech pro league and the top junior league. Against pro competition, he scored three points including one goal in 16 games. At the Junior level, he was far more dominant, putting up 20 goals and 41 points in 29 games.
He added 6 goals and 14 points in 15 playoff games. Elite prospects lists his top qualities as puck handling and two-way play. This, combined with above average size makes him a good candidate to crack the Leafs bottom six in a few years time. Will he get there? Only time will tell.
