Martin St Louis confirms the reason why he left the Canadiens
For the past week, the Montreal Canadiens have been without their head coach Martin St Louis due to a family emergency. Today he spoke about the events that led to him stepping away from the team.
Just over a week ago, it was announced that Martin St Louis would be stepping away from the Montreal Canadiens due to a family emergency. At the time all that was known was that St Louis would be away indefinitely and Trevor Letowski was taking over.
Today the Montreal Canadiens released a statement confirming that Martin St Louis would be returning. As part of the statement Martin St Louis confirmed he stepped away to tend to health problems with his son Mason St Louis.
Mason St-Louis, aged 16, is the youngest of the three sons of Martin and Heather. He was injured while playing a game for the U15 Mid-Fairfield (Connecticut). A week later, Mason experienced multiple complications related to his injury, necessitating his hospitalization. His condition has since stabilized, and he is now recuperating at the family home.
Martin St Louis spoke as well giving thanks to the Montreal Canadiens organization, the fans, as well as of course the medical staff taking care of his son.
We are very grateful to the Canadiens organization, our fans, and the hockey community for their understanding and support throughout Mason's injury and recovery. I would like to sincerely thank all the medical staff, doctors, and nurses who took care of Mason during his hospital stay. I would also like to thank everyone who respected my family and our privacy. I now ask you to turn your attention to the team for the rest of the season.
Martin St Louis who is beloved by his team has been missed in his time away. In his absence, the team played for the St Louis family and did find a bit of success without their bench boss.
Montreal Canadiens get interim head coach Trevor Letowski his first win
In the three games that Martin St Louis was away from the team assistant head coach Trevor Letowski took over. The first game was an overtime loss to a high-powered Edmonton Oilers team. The second was a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Finally in his third and final contest as head coach Trevor Letowski secured a 5-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.
As Martin St Louis returns to Montreal we wish his family and in particular Mason the best as he navigates recovery from his medical event. The Canadiens will look to finish the season strong with their fearless leader back behind the bench.
