Hall of famer Patrick Roy hired by the New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have announced the team has let go of Head Coach Lane Lambert and have hired Hockey Hall of Fame Goalie Patrick Roy as his replacement.

Roy, 58, most recently coached Quebec of the QMJHL, holding the job of both Head Coach and GM from 2017-2023. Roy won the CHL Memorial Cup with Quebec last season. Roy spent 3 years prior with the Colorado Avalanche as Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations, compiling a 130-92-24 record with Colorado, winning the Jack Adams Award in 2014.

Lambert, who spent two seasons behind the bench for the Islanders, had a 61-46-20 record with New York in 127 games, his first coaching stint in the NHL after 4 years as an Assistant with the Islanders, as well as the same role with Nashville and Washington.

Considered by most as one of the greatest players of all-time, Roy is 3rd in NHL history in Wins with 551, recently passed at 2nd by Marc-Andre Fleury at 552, and Martin Brodeur at 691.

In 19 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche, Roy won 4 Stanley Cups, 3 Vezina Trophies, and made 12 All-Star Appearances, along with 3 Conn Smythe Trophies for Playoff MVP, with his number 33 retired by both Montreal and Colorado.

Roy was inducted in to the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Player in 2006.
