Patrick Kane Silences Doubters With A Major Update
Patrick Kane had an eventful season in 2022-23. He began with the struggling Chicago Blackhawks and eventually was moved on to the New York Rangers. After a playoff exit with New York it was revealed that Patrick Kane would need to have hip surgery.
Kane's Recovery Timeline
After surgery Patrick Kane was given a four to six-month recovery diagnosis. This had left his status for the 2023-24 season in question. He is a free agent and was likely not going to play until around January of 2024. This meant teams would likely start the season and then decide whether or not they need Kane's services. However, new information from Kane himself suggests the timeline may be accelerated.
Kane Takes The Ice For First Time Since Injury
Patrick Kane returned to the ice today for the first time since his injury. He spoke with the media following his skate and talked about his future.
«It's just exciting to see progression and just feeling better on the ice,» Kane said in an interview with The Associated Press. «Kind of getting back to my old self, so it's pretty exciting.»
«I think we're at the point now where, I mean, could I come back early? Yeah, probably,» Kane said. «But does it make sense? You know, it might be better to take the full time and just make sure I'm at 105-110% instead of just 90-95. But it's a lot better than I was last year.»
Kane admits that there is a world where he makes his way back to the NHL earlier than expected. He also acknowledges the risk of coming back early and playing not at 100%. He also says he is feeling a lot better than he was last year.
If Kane is feeling this good now that he is able to skate he will likely feel even better in two months when the season starts. Teams will likely need to start considering signing Kane sooner than they had previously thought. A fully healthy Patrick Kane on a contending team could be a scary good combination.
