Artemi Panarin causes controversy with headshot on TJ Oshie
Tonight New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin found himself facing major controversy after a hit to the head on TJ Oshie. The hit would go unpunished but has led to talk of disciplinary action.
Late in the game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals the Rangers were looking to hold their lead. In pursuit of this forward Artemi Panarin was doing something he doesn't normally do. Artemi Panarin was flying around the ice and laying the boom on the Capitals. At one point he landed a major hit on TJ Oshie which looked to be to the head.
Artemi Panarin did not get a penalty for this hit on TJ Oshie but Oshie has left the game
As the clip began to be shared around X fans decided to weigh in their opinions. Many fans came to the defense of Artemi Panarin.
Why would he get a penalty?
Clean hit. Now show Oshie's high stick on Panarin that wasn't called
While many supported him there were also fans who thought that Artemi Panarin was getting special treatment.
If Tom Wilson did that, the Rangers would have released a strongly worded press release and fires all their coaches If that was Tom Wilson it'd be a 8 game suspension, #NYR are paying the refs well
This will likely be a topic of discussion in the days to come before game 3. If the Washington Capitals feel a need for revenge someone like Tom Wilson could be sent after Artemi Panarin. Heading into Game 3 the New York Rangers lead the series 2-0.
