The Toronto Maple Leafs evened up their series against the Bruins last night, but no thanks to the referees. Brad Marchand drew a slashing penalty on Tyler Bertuzzi after he grossly embellished the play, fooling the officials. Unfortunately, the NHL has seemingly ignored the incident.

The incident came during a scrum in the Leafs zone after a whistle blew the play dead. Players on both teams were already headed to the box, which would have made it 4 on 4 hockey, however, the back official also called Tyler Bertuzzi for this slash on Brad Marchand.

I really hope Brad Marchand survives this treacherous slash.
Praying for him 🙏

Did Bertuzzi make contact with Marchand's leg? Probably. But from the other angle, it is clear that he barely tapped him at all. Clearly though, the Bruins captain felt something as he went down quickly, grabbing his leg like a soccer player would after a tackle. This lead many fans to believe that he deserved a penalty for embellishment, or at the very least a fine from the league.

Did Brad Marchand deserve an embellishment penalty on this play last night? 😭☠️

That being said, the deadline for the league to give Marchand any supplementary discipline has come and gone with not so much as a peep from the Department of Player Safety. As such, the Bruins captain appears to have gotten away with this one.

The @NHL has decided not to fine #NHLBruins captain Brad Marchand for embellishment

Luckily, the call did not affect the outcome of the game. Now the Leafs will look to take the lead as the series heads back to Toronto for game three tomorrow night.
