We found out earlier this morning that former NHL star goalie and Vezina runner-up Roman Cechmanek unexpectedly passed away at 52-years-old.

Along with his near-Vezina win, Cechmanek won the William M. Jennings trophy as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, and was one of the best netminders in the league for nearly half a decade.

Philadelphia Flyers Legend Roman Cechmanek Unexpectedly Passes Away at 52

With a heavy heart, this morning, it was announced that Roman Cechmanek passed away.

"We're so sad. Unfortunately, Roman Cechmanek has died. He played over 200 games in the NHL & won William M. Jennings Trophy with Philadelphia. He was 52 years old. Rest in peace, Roman."

Cechmanek's International Glory Outside of the NHL

As well as being one of the best in the league in his short time in the NHL (he was drafted when he was 29!), he also won gold for Czechia at the Olympic Games in 1998.

He'll be remembered as one of the most unique goaltenders in recent history, and he'll be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Roman.
