After a nasty playoff exit in the OHL, Shane Wright will be returning to professional hockey. The Kraken have made a controversial decision on where, however.

Wright Heads to the AHL

With the Kraken officially in a playoff spot, it would make sense that they'd want to boost their roster in any way possible.

Shane Wright, their fourth overall pick in the 2022 entry draft, was eliminated from the OHL playoffs on Thursday, and is available to join the team.

The Kraken have decided however to assign him to Coachella Valley of the AHL.

Brutal Playoffs for Wright

After being acquired for seven draft picks and two players by the Windsor Spitfires, the top-seed in the OHL western conference were swept by the eighth-seed Kitchener Rangers.

Wright's three points in four games didn't help much, and the Spitfires' season ended miserably.

This performance may be the reason the Kraken opted to send Wright to the AHL, while it could equally be a question of his contract, as he is eligible for an entry-level slide.

Either way, the Kraken don't want Wright in the NHL. After his playoffs in the OHL, we can't really blame them.
