Auston Matthews Opens Up Following His Extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Auston Matthews have been the center of the NHL world for the last few weeks. Fans and media were waiting to see if and when Matthews would sign. Now we have the answer and how Matthews feels after signing.
Matthews Signs His Extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they agreed to an extension with Auston Matthews.
Matthews inked a four year deal with an AAV of $13,500,000. Many throughout the hockey world have given their opinion since the signing. Most end with the same sentiment the Leafs keep their guy and that's all that matters.
Matthews Reacts To Signing Extension
The opinion that may matter most in the whole situation is that of Auston Matthews himself. Today he took to social media to talk about his feelings on his new contract.
I feel fortunate to continue this journey as a Maple Leaf in front of the best fans in hockey! I will do everything I can to help get us to the top of the mountain. GLG! #LeafsForever
From Matthews' post, he seems pumped to be back in Toronto. Representing the Leafs and the city of Toronto is important to Matthews. He goes on to say he will do everything he can to get the Leafs to the mountaintop and lift the Stanley Cup.
Now Matthews and the Leafs can head into the season without the media distraction of the contract looming over the organization. Most importantly the deal keeps Matthews in Toronto for four more years to try and chase down that elusive Stanley Cup.
