While Matthew Tkachuk has undoubtedly been one of the top three players in these playoffs, Auston Matthews, on the other hand, has been rather lackluster.
Tkachuk's style of play is truly unique and perfect for the playoffs. In an interview immediately after being drafted, Matthew Tkachuk shared his admiration for a particular player he enjoys watching.
Check out the tweet below to see the interview:
During the interview, Tkachuk mentioned Corey Perry in his prime, who won both the Hart Trophy and the Rocket Richard and was regarded as one of the NHL's finest players. While Matthews and Laine responded with funny looks, it showcases the type of player Tkachuk aspires to be.
Perhaps it is Tkachuk's emulation of prime Corey Perry that sets him apart from Matthews.
Tkachuk was selected 6th overall in the 2016 draft. In the past year, he scored 40 goals and tallied 109 points in 79 games, all while maintaining a physical, rat-like style of play.
Matthews, on the other hand, was chosen as the 1st overall pick in 2016. In the past year, he scored 40 goals and earned 85 points in 74 games. Although his game is less physical, Matthews has proven himself by scoring 60 goals in a single season and winning both the Hart Trophy and the Rocket Richard.
