Today NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman gave details on the All-Star festivities planned for Toronto this season.
Commissioner Gary Bettman joined Sportsnet's Christine Simpson during the preseason game between the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs today.
During this interview, one of the biggest topics was the NHL All-Star game coming up in Toronto. Simpson asked Bettman what events were planned and if the CN Tower or other Toronto landmarks would be involved. Here is what Bettman had to say.
It sounds as though the Toronto All-Star experience will be a more traditional type of all-star weekend similar to the roots of the game. Last season's NHL All-Star game was met with a lot of mixed opinions due to several of the gimmicks done particularly during the skills competition portion.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming up on a crucial season for the franchise. They have brought in several players who are catered to helping the Maple Leafs win in the playoffs. First, though the Maple Leafs will need to succeed in the regular season.
If the Leafs are going to have a good regular season to set themselves up for success in the playoffs their stars will need to be great. If their stars play to their potential the Maple Leafs could have a big presence on the Atlantic All-Star team. This would be fantastic to have several players represent the city for the weekend and show how great the city of Toronto is both on and off the ice.
