The Maple Leafs have a hearing today for Ilya Samsonov's salary, and after the verdict comes in, other moves should be announced.

It's only speculation, but with what Brad Treliving has to do before the start of next season, if he doesn't start soon, he won't be able to do all those things.

Treliving's List

The Leafs GM has a lot on his plate, starting with Matt Murray. The goalie is still in Toronto, and a trade or a buyout seems less and less plausible. He'll remain in Toronto to be placed on LTIR.

Treliving needs to sign Auston Matthews and William Nylander. It seems complicated for Nylander, and it looks like he'll be traded, even if the last year of his contract only costs $6.9 million.

The Leafs' blueline isn't good. They added Klingberg, but it's truly not enough. Something else needs to be done in this area, and the rumors suggest Erik Karlsson would be a great candidate.

However, to do that, they'll need money, as they have no cap space. Actually, they're $3M over it, and there's not enough money to sign Samsonov, even with Murray on the LTIR.

That means a trade is likely coming. If it's not Nylander, another player has been involved in trade rumors, and it's TJ Brodie.

Brodie has a $7.5M salary, and it would solve the Leafs' cap problem.

In my opinion, trading him would be better than moving Nylander. Both players have only a year left on their contract, but Brodie's more easily replaceable than Nylander. If they can replace Brodie with Karlsson on their blue line, Treliving will have shown that he wasn't hired for nothing...
