Rumors have been spreading lately that Kyle Dubas may not receive a contract extension from the Maple Leafs after this season, leaving him up for grabs for teams in need of a GM. But according to NHL Insider, Elliotte Friedman, Dubas is likely staying put in Toronto.
Dubas was promoted from assistant GM to head GM in 2018. He has made several notable moves as Leafs GM. In his first free agency period with the Leafs, Dubas signed former New York Islanders captain John Tavares to a seven year contract. Other significant moves made by Dubas include trading for former St. Louis Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly at this year's trade deadline and acquiring defenseman Jake Muzzin from the Kings in 2018.
Should Dubas not sign an extension with Toronto, one of the teams he could end up with is the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins fired GM Ron Hextall after failing to make the playoffs, ending their 17 year playoff streak.
The Toronto Maple Leafs kick off their first game of Round 1 of the NHL Playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 7:30 PM.
