The Leafs have the choice between Ilya Samsonov, Matt Murray and Joseph Woll. Woll currently plays for the Marlies, and the Leafs have no reason to call him up and start him. That means we will only be comparing Murray and Samsonov.
Luke Fox, an NHL journalist, has compared the two goalies in a recent Tweet, he noticed that Samsonov has 18 wins at home, while Murray only has 9 wins on the road. Samsonov has 2 losses at home while Murray has a shocking 6 away losses. Samsonov has 2 overtime losses while Murray only has 1 overtime loss. This shows that Samsonov seems to play better at home, while Murray struggles on the road. Sheldon Keefe commented on this observation, stating:
If the Leafs can obtain home ice for round 1 of the playoffs, it would be wise to start Samsonov, who seems to play better at home. If you want to compare the overall statistics of the two this season, Samsonov has played in more games and has more wins than Murray. Samsonov has a .914 SV% while Murray has a .905 SV%. It is clear when comparing stats who has had the better season.
The question remains, who will Keefe start in the playoffs?
