Trouble in Toronto: Maple Leafs Fans Furious with Coach Sheldon Keefe - Are the Maple Leafs Headed for a Major Shake-Up?
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been inconsistent and rather disappointing to start the season this year. For the first time in what feels like a very long time, the team actually finds themselves just barely holding onto the 2nd wildcard spot in the playoff race. Their 10-6-3 record has them 5th in the Atlantic division.
Leafs Fans Call For Sheldon Keefe To Be Replaced
Nick Gosse of Leafs Digest added a segment to his show this morning discussing fan sentiment regarding Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. Apparently, fans are not too happy with the way he has been coaching the team and managing the lines since and frustrations are starting to become more obvious after another tough loss against the Penguins.
Time to start a shortlist for coaching change. It's year 5 of Keefe and we've won a max of 5 playoff games. What else they gonna do?
This particular fan continued to show their disapproval of Keefe with another post.
Rather fire Keefe and bring in our new coach now vs watch this team barely make the playoffs, lose to one of the 3 better Atlantic teams, then fire him in the summer
Gosse added his thoughts to the discussion, noting that he is undecided on how he feels about Keefe at this moment.
I am not sure where I stand on this yet. It's still very early in the season. Do I think they fire Sheldon Keefe yet? Maybe not. We've seen crazier things happen.
He went on to discuss how the team should have won both of the games against the Blackhawks and Penguins, but he did not seem to place the sole blame for those loses of Keefe.
Matthews And Marner Underperforming For The Maple Leafs
Part of the team's struggles has come due to the struggles of their star players. Most notably, Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have both struggled to find the score sheet in recent games. Both were held pointless in their last game against the Penguins.
Sheldon Keefe went so far as to call out Mitch Marner for his inconsistent play.
The Leafs season seems to be slowly slipping away from them as the losses continue to pile up. At this point the team has only won one more game than they've lost and they haven't seemed to click as a team. How much of the blame goes on Keefe is up to management to decide. While fans may not be happy, they may very well not get what they want as there has been no indication from the team that Keefe's job is in jeopardy.
