William Nylander Reveals Why He Furiously Broke His Stick On The Bench
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a successful start to the NHL season with two wins. Everything hasn't been easy though and this was particularly true for William Nylander last night.
Nylander Furiously Breaks His Stick
After a failed scoring attempt William Nylander looked irate. As a result, he slammed his stick on the boards. His stick then partially broke but once he made it back to the bench he made sure to finish the stick off breaking it fully.
Nylander was clearly very frustrated but at the time fans weren't sure why.
Not used to seeing Willy Nylander pissed off like that. I'm for it.
Toronto was up in the game and Nylander was playing well. Now after the game we have an update on what led Nylander to take out frustration on his stick.
Nylander Reveals Why He Destroyed His Stick
After the game during his media availability, William Nylander talked about why he was so frustrated at that moment.
Nylander says he slammed his stick out of frustration over not burying two breakaway chances
The game at this point was still close and those two missed breakaways could have mattered in the end. Thankfully for Nylander and the Maple Leafs the team took control soon after and ended up beating the Wild handedly.
While Nylander's missed opportunities ended up not mattering it is always good to see players have some competitive fire. Each and every player in the NHL holds themselves to a high standard and sometimes the frustration will mount when they don't reach that standard.
As long as the frustration doesn't effect Nylander long term it will probably be a good motivator to keep improving.
