Analyzing the Remaining Cap Space of the Leafs to Sign Matthew Knies'
The Toronto Maple Leafs are incredibly up close to the salary cap. Looking to add NCAA prospect Matthew Knies to the roster, it will get very very tight.
Kyle Dubas, Salary Cap Genius
The entry-level contract given to most high-end prospects carries a cap-hit of $925,000. Kyle Dubas and the Toronto Maple Leafs currently sit at $928,750 in space, almost exactly enough to sign Knies.
So, depending on when Knies' season ends, which lies on when the University of Minnesota is eliminated from the playoffs (which could be as late as mid-April if they win the championship), Dubas and co. will be in perfect shape to sign him.
The only question is: will he play for the Leafs in the playoffs?
