After easily dispatching of Team Finland on Thursday night, Auston Matthews and Team USA head into a very heated matchup with Team Canada on Saturday -- and fireworks are to be expected.
When asked about his thoughts ahead of the North American clash, Matthews knows that both teams are going to bring their A-game and the crowd is going to play a big factor:
So with a huge game ahead of both teams -- Who is going to come out on top?
Even ahead of both teams matchups, there was already expected to be some bloodshed as comments from Boston's Brad Marchand showed this wasn't your normal exhibition.
This was before all of the craziness outside of the hockey world too. Both teams are expected to be the frontrunners for winning it all, and with a hostile crowd already for the US team -- expect some thunderous jeers pre-game.
Canada comes into the game with a win over Sweden, and while it seemed that the team had control, Sweden fought back and the Canadians needed Mitch Marner to be the overtime hero.
The team will look to Sidney Crosby to keep up his vintage performance as he did Wednesday night and hope that other stars like Connor McDavid can pick things up.
Canada was dealt a big blow injury-wise as Shea Theodore is going to miss the remainder of the tournament with Dallas Stars defenseman Thomas Harley taking his spot.
No word yet on who the Canadian goaltender is going to be, but with such a crucial game ahead of them it's likely Adin Hill or Jordan Binnington. The latter got the start Wednesday so head coach Jon Cooper might see what Hill can do.
For Team USA it was more like Team Tkachuk on Thursday. Brothers Matthew and Brady combined for four goals and had points on five of USA's six goals.
Auston Matthews got in on the fun with an assist, and the US also had goals from Matt Boldy and Jake Guentzel. Zach Werenski continued his torrid season with three points, and Connor Hellebuyck continuing his Vezina-caliber season stopping 20 shots.
Much like Canada, no word on goaltenders however the US team can't go wrong with either Hellebuyck again or Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger.
This heated matchup between sworn enemies on the ice takes place on Saturday Feb 15. from the Bell Centre in Montreal. Puck drop is scheduled for 8PM ET.
