Former Toronto Maple Leafs player has been charged with a drunk driving incident back in August in his home country Finland.

Kasperi Kapanen charged with serious crime

Insider Chris Johnston reported today that former Maple Leaf Kasperi Kapanen has been charged with a drunk driving crime back in August and he has been fined 117,000$ USD.

The Finnish player has played for three NHL teams, The Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins and the St.Louis Blues who he currently plays with.

Kapanen, 27, was caught driving under the influence in Siilinjärvi on August 1, 2023. Kapanen had started his journey from the airport.

Kapanen had consumed alcohol to the extent that he had 0.56 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air after driving. This corresponds to a blood alcohol content of 1.25 per mille.

The limit for aggravated drunk driving is 1.2 per mille.
At the time of the act, Kapanen had a passenger in the vehicle.

He had admitted to the act during the preliminary investigation.
Kapanen was not present in person or via remote connection at the district court session on Thursday because his presence was not required.

Kapanen's lawyer, Anu Kolari, pleaded in court regarding the publicity the case had received.

Interesting to see how this will play out between Kapanen and the St.Louis Blues.
