After the last trade deadline and the off-season thus far, the Calgary Flames plans have become clear, and with plenty of cap space and a clear direction, it appears they're looking to add to their young core.
The Athletic's Julian McKenzie has now put together a list of 11 players that Calgary should be targeting, and on that list was disgruntled Maple Leafs winger Nick Robertson.
Also on the list was Trevor Zegras, Kappo Kaako, Dawson Mercer and many more, but it's Robertson that may be the most intriguing for Calgary, especially for the opportunity to take on a bad contract from Toronto in exchange for another asset.
While Robertson certainly improved in Toronto last season with a season full of health finally, he just wasn't able to put it all together like expected, and with the Flames having some veterans Toronto may be interested in, they make sense as potential trade partners.
Unfortunately, bad blood and the lack of a desire to do business between Brad Treliving and his former team may hold back a deal from happening, but on paper, this should be a deal that could help both parties, and could certainly materialize as the off-season rolls on.
