Former Leaf Michael Bunting Reveals Why He Chose the Canes Over the Maple Leafs
Michael Bunting has offered some insight into why he decided to sign in Carolina as opposed to Toronto.
Bunting Signs With Carolina
This past offseason has been a whirlwind for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Between their newest signings and departures, the roster turnover has been immense for the Leafs.
Of these departures, Michael Bunting was arguably the largest with him playing on the first line primarily in Toronto and now leaving for a conference rival in Carolina could make that loss one that stings for Toronto.
Now, Bunting has offered some insight on why he decided to sign for the Carolina Hurricanes over Toronto.
Bunting's Reasoning
It appears that there was not much interest from Toronto per what Bunting's side of the story:
"It wasn't a lot of contract talk that went on during the season... then once the offseason came along... didn't really hear much... you kinda just figured that it wasn't going to work... it was just quick talks, nothing extensive." - Bunting
He also explained how Carolina was a "no brainer":
"[Joining Carolina] was almost like a no brainer to me. Obviously, they they've been very close for a long time. And I feel like I'm going to be able to help them hopefully get over that hump. I feel like they fit my game as well, just kind of a fast in your face and (an) offensive flying kind of game. I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds here."
With Carolina adding Bunting, Dmitry Orlov, and Tony DeAngelo, it is clear they are gearing up for another deep playoff run; one that may cross paths with Toronto's.
