The free agent moves of the Toronto Maple Leafs have been highlighted by the additions to their blue line, but it was the move to get Anthony Stolarz in net that may have been the biggest upgrade of the summer.
The 30-year old comes into this season on the back of the Florida Panthers first Stanley Cup in history, and while he didn't see too much playing time in the post-season, the experience will be invaluable.
Now, he has opened up on exactly why the Maple Leafs were the right landing spot for him, and he kept his explanation nice and simple.
Stolarz mentioned that it was the opportunity for an upgrade in playing time over being Sergei Bobrovsky's backup, while also playing behind a potential contender that was the reason he eyed Toronto as a free agent.
Joseph Woll is expected to be the Maple Leafs starter in 2024/25, but with injury and experience issues, this could see Stolarz on the ice plenty throughout the year, and if he's as good as he was this past year, tallying a 2.03 GAA and a .925 save percentage, it will be a good move for the Leafs.
