The report came out of Russia today, confirming that the former Senator has inded passed away. Filimonov was drafted in the 3rd round, 49th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1991 entry draft. He was later traded to the Senators in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 1993 draft which became Ruslan Batyrshin, who played 2 career NHL games with the LA Kings.
After leaving North America, Filimonov had a lengthy and successful career in his home country of Russia, where he played in parts of 10 seasons, racking up just over 400 career games played.
Filimonov got into 30 games with the Senators during the 1993-94 season. He recorded one goal and 5 points in that stretch while going -10 and adding 18 penalty minutes. He would spend the next couple of seasons in the AHL before returning to Russia.
Oddly enough, of his four career assists, one came short handed. His career in North America may have been short, but he will be missed. Rest in peace Dimitri.
