Brad Treliving needs to make a trade to add some scoring depth and added defense to his team and has an ideal trade partner with a close connection to the team.

With Toronto desperately needing to add some secondary scoring and defense to their bottom line, they have a selection of players that Brad Treliving can pick and choose who the best fit is with the team.

But some of those options are either expensive, or don't bring the type of impact player Toronto needs. Though the Leafs GM could search West and bring in another family tandem as he did with the Nylanders earlier on.

The Tanev Brothers Reunite In Blue And White

Toronto already has history with the Kraken, having acquired Mark Giordano from them previously, and the family connection will also help immensely if Treliving wanted to bring Brandon Tanev over.

The younger brother of Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev, not only would there be a great story with the duo together, but he could be a huge help for the team.

This season through 31 games, Tanev has 14 points (7G, 7A) and would help alleviate a lot of the Maple Leafs woes on the left side of the offense. Defensively sound like his brother, he's also not afraid to throw his weight around or block shots; a staple in the Tanev household it seems.

For his career, he has 172 points in 504 games since being signed by Winnipeg as a free agent after a collegiate career in Providence.

Tanev could line up alongside Fraser Minten on the third line, or slot down on the fourth line with Connor Dewar and Steven Lorentz. An unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Tanev would be a cheap option at only $3.5M.

There are also other targets Toronto could go after such as Yanni Gourde and Will Borgen.

Gourde is an expensive option at $5.1M and is also a free agent at the season's conclusion. He's a stout defender who adds a winning pedigree and fantastic playoff production but comes at a cost.

Borgen is a 6'3, 204-pound American defenseman who could slot in for Jani Hakanpaa or Conor Timmins if Craig Berube wanted to bring a bit more consistency.

Brad Treliving needs to make a deal soon, and with a number of roster members returning, the need for auxiliary players isn't urgent, and the team needs to focus on what will make them deadlier come April.
