Ilya Samsonov breaks silence following his disappointing performance
After a tough loss in game 1 of the series against the Boston Bruins, Ilya Samsonov has opened up about his performance, and how he gets his confidence in these times.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a disappointing start to the season, and they didn't quite get the goaltending they had hoped for to start the series. After allowing 4 goals in the 5-1 loss, Ilya Samsonov opened up about his performance and how he hopes to get his confidence back in game 2.
Ilya Samsonov: I believe in myself. I believe in my skill. I believe in everybody in this room. That gives me confidence.
I don't think Samsonov would say he had the best game of his career, however, he was hardly the only thing that went wrong for the Leafs. Despite letting in the first shot he faced in the first, and then the first he faced in the second, the Leafs also struggled on the penalty kill and took a lot of penalties to go along with that. However, his performance may result in Joseph Woll getting the start for game 2.
I didn't think Samsonov was significantly worse than anyone else in blue and white in game one, but I had more faith in Woll coming into the season and that hasn't changed through all the ups and downs for both players this season.
Ultimately, the Leafs will have to clean up their game around the ice, stop taking undisciplined penalties and hope that their big guns can get on the scoresheet in game 2. If they can do that, they can get back in the win column in this series.
