A reporter covering the New York Islanders proposed a questionable trade scenario for Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Mitch Marner.

There's a lot of speculation out there about Mitch Marner's fate with the Maple Leafs. Following a tough playoff run and a lot of changes within the organization, many people believe he played his last game with Toronto.

If Marner ends up being traded this summer, many teams should be interested in the market.

According to a report, the New York Islanders would be among those teams.

Trade scenario: Mitch Marner to the New York Islanders

For years, the Islanders have been in need of a top offensive player capable of having an impact. A guy like Mitch Marner would be the perfect target to fill that hole.

The Hockey News shared a proposal for a Marner trade. They put forward the idea of seeing either Adam Pelech or Ryan Pulock alongside draft picks for Marner:

"The Islanders would dish Adam Pelech ($5.75 M AAV) or Ryan Pulock ($6.15 M) and a draft pick(s) for Marner."

Pulock and Pelech are both reliable defensemen, but Treliving was clear in his end-of-season press conference: he wants the team to be better when the next season starts. Getting Pelech or Pulock wouldn't really upgrade the team as much as it would keep the status quo.

If the Islanders want to acquire a star player from Toronto, it'll likely cost them a star player.

Many Leafs fans already have their eyes on Noah Dobson, but it would be surprising to see the Isles trade him unless he asks for it.
