Joseph Woll's absence in game 7 is related to a back injury
The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll suffered a back injury ahead of game 7, explaining why Ilya Samsonov got the ultimate start against the Boston Bruins.
For a little while there, it looked like the Leafs could've beat the Bruins and come back from a 3-1 deficit, and that's mainly due to Joseph Woll's great performances.
Unfortunately, he got injured and was forced to sit out on game seven, and the Leafs ended up losing in overtime.
Brad Treliving, the general manager, revealed further details in his end-of-season availability, stating that the goalie hurt his back:
"Woll injured his back at the game of Game 6."
This was Woll's second major injury of the season. Back in December, he suffered a high ankle sprain, forcing him to miss several months.
Treliving mentionned in his press conference that he still believes in him, despite his injury history. However, he plans to find out why he keeps getting injured to prevent further complications in the future:
"Treliving: "I have faith in Joe." Says teams has to "dig into" why Woll has a history of injuries. #Leafs"
The Leafs' future between the pipes looks very good. With Woll and Dennis Hildeby pursuing their development, Toronto could finally have an interesting goaltending unit.
More to come.
