The Leafs dropped the head coach last week after yet another disappointing first-round exit in the playoffs. Following the announcement, Keefe posted a video on X, thanking the Leafs organization and their fanbase. It was a truly heartfelt moment between the coach and the fans. Notably, Kyle Dubas liked the video.
The Penguins general manager also liked another post about Keefe. This one showed a series of memes with Keefe photoshopped into famous locations including the great wall of China, as he is set to enjoy some time away from hockey. Some fans saw this as Dubas taking a jab at the Leafs and or Keefe.
However, many fans believe Dubas' relationship with the former Leafs coach is still strong. Additionally, the Penguins happen to be one of the teams looking for a new head coach this summer. This has lead to some speculation that Dubas might look for a reunion with Keefe, bringing him in as the Penguins head coach next season.
Whether or not that will actually come to fruition remains to be seen. Keefe has already been linked to other teams, including the New Jersey Devils. Furthermore, there are many other teams across the league looking to fill a void at the head coach position. We will just have to wait and see how the coaches carousel plays out this summer.
