The decision by the department of player safety has people wondering where the NHL's consistency has gone.
With the announcement today that Colorado's star defenseman would be unavailable for their next game due to suspension, many were left wondering why Makar only has to sit out one game, meanwhile Michael Bunting just got done serving three games for his suspension.
Their decision making feels extremely hypocritical to many, who think the league has a built in bias against Toronto.
Makar hits McCann with no clear play for the puck in mind, and the result was not pretty for McCann.
That being said, Michael Bunting's hit to the head on Erik Cernak has left Cernak unavailable for the Lightning since game one, as he's been out with an injury ever since the play.
While you may not agree with each suspension respectively, it's important to note that the NHL may be trying to set a clear precedent for each specific play, and by laying down a hard punishment for Bunting's hit, they make sure everyone knows what to expect in the future.
