Leafs fans furious over report of Max Domi's next contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs have some big free agent decisions to make under new Coach Craig Berube, and early reports haven't gone down well with their fans.
Max Domi had a fantastic season in his first campaign with the Toronto Maple Leafs, tallying 9 goals and 47 points while playing in 80 of the teams 82 regular season games. Now, the 29-year old forward is expected to hit free agency, although the team have plenty of interest in bringing him back.
However, it has been reported that if he were to come back to Toronto, the deal would pay him between $5M and $6M annually on a multi-year deal, and it's safe to say that the report hasn't gone down well with some Maple Leafs fans.
that's twice as much as he's worth but toronto media can't help themselves from jacking up the price on players around here
Term yes, anything above 5 mil is getting really hard to stomach. However, if we are worried about HIS cap hit after the playoffs he had, we really are cap-strapped.
He won basically every face-off, played hard, and was tied for the lead in points. Gotta keep.
While he did play well in the post-season, Domi tallied just 4 points in the seven-game series with the Bruins, and given the Maple Leafs depth, there's a genuine question to be asked about letting him walk, rather than paying him $5 million per season.
Ultimately, this may come down to what they do with Mitch Marner and whether or not he's traded and what the team will get in return, but if they pay Domi over $5 million a year, it could hinder them depending on other moves this summer.
