Auston Matthews has been confirmed to be starting for the Maple Leafs on Saturday night after missing the last few weeks due to his nagging injury.

It's been a tough year for Auston Matthews has he's dealt with two injuries that have kept him on the shelf. He's missed a good chunk of the season and many wondered when he would be able to return.

The Maple Leafs need him back if they are going to make a deep run this season and his health is of utmost importance. Things seem to be looking up then as Matthews has been activated off the IR and is going to suit up against the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

NHL Insider Chris Johnston reported the news on X.

The Leafs captain has felt good enough to get back on the ice and feels he can contribute to the team once again.

Auston Matthews' Return A Huge Positive For Maple Leafs

While the team has done fairly well without their captain there's no doubt he makes such an impact the team is worse off when he's out. While yes they have firepower enough to sustain some success, a healthy Matthews makes the team that much better.

He comes back in a crucial game against the Bruins as Boston is only six points off Toronto in the Atlantic, meanwhile the Leafs are tied with Florida in what's sure to be a neck and neck race all year long.

This season has been quite the letdown for Matthews, has he only has 11 goals and 12 assists while also looking a step or two behind in terms of his explosiveness.

Fans hope that he's over his ailment although recent comments from the captain did little to dissuade people. It's led to more questions than answers and there's pressure on Maple Leafs management to protect him as much as they can.

Matthews will line up with his familiar linemates Mitch Marner and Matthew Knies as Toronto continues to roll with their normal lineup.
